Van Midde and Son Management
Ted Van Midde
Ted Van Midde established Van Midde & Son Concrete in San Rafael in 1991. A second Generation resident of Marin County, Ted learned the basics of mixing, transporting and installing concrete from his father, who worked 35 years for Shamrock Materials. Prior to opening his own business, Ted worked 11 years for Carcano and Velcich of San Rafael, a concrete contracting firm, where he qualified for his Contractor’s License. Ted lll learned the basics of concrete work from seasoned veterans of the industry. Starting out as a laborer, Ted went from pulling nails and cleaning lumber and running a jackhammer to running the business. After working for the company for 11 years he started his own business in July of 1991. The times were tough then and both construction and the nation’s economy were down, but with hard work Ted was able to take a business with 1 employee and turn it into a company of 30.
Believing that it is important to give back to one’s local community, Ted contributes to Marin County in a variety of ways. Ted is a current member of the Marin Builders Association and served as the President, Treasurer, Secretary of the Insurance Trust, Chairman of the Finance Committee and even served as a member of the Public Relations Committee. Ted was also the 2005 recipient of the Marin Economic Commission’s “Community Leadership Individual Achievement Award”. Ted Van Midde, following in his father’s footsteps, joined the Lions club International and was the president of the San Geronimo Valley chapter from 2003 to 2004. Ted III has always prided himself on the fact that he does good work. We want every concrete job to be something that we could use as a reference. Every customer is important and we take no less pride in the small concrete jobs as we do in the big ones. The crew and company of Van Midde & Son Concrete are skilled in all of the newest techniques in concrete installation and have the ability to transform your home and yard into something truly incredible.
Scott Foster
Scott Foster has been a part of the Van Midde & Son concrete team for over 9 years. Scott started working for Ted in 2000. His first big concrete job was the Nicasio school, which he did the foundation slabs for the new classrooms and gym. Concrete School projects are tough because they have critical time schedules and inspections. He passed this first test of his concrete skills with flying colors. Scott has become an expert in concrete colors and concrete finishes. He can recommend what colors will work best for your concrete or paver job. Scott also has lots of experience recommending concrete layouts for backyards and front yards. Working with landscape architects and designers, he has ideas that help with form and function.
Scott has known Ted lll since they were 5 years old. They grew up together in Woodacre, CA and went all the way through high school together. Scott went to work for his uncle in the produce business right out of high school. He went on to manage the business for his uncle. After working in the produce business for 20 years Scott wanted to try something different. Ted and Scott were on vacation with their families in Tahoe during Christmas when Ted made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. The boyhood friends would now be reunited together in Van Midde & Son concrete. It has been great having Scott in the company. Trust is never something that can be taken for granted and Ted has been able to trust Scott with every job he has been given. Scott has worked in the field with the crew learning first hand the art of concrete construction. The only way to teach someone is to know how to do it yourself and Scott can safely say that he has it mastered.
Knowing how to do the job has made it easier for him to transition to the office where he has now been for quite a few years. If you need an estimate chances are Scott will be the one you see, especially if you live in the Novato area. Scott and his family have called Novato home for almost 25 years. Scott is active with his youngest son Sam in baseball and other youth sports in the area. Scott is also a big outdoorsman. He loves to fish and hunt, having been taught the sport by his father Enos, a lifelong Marin native. Experience and a great sense of humor are what Scott brings to every concrete job. If you have any questions before starting your new concrete project with Van Midde and Son, Scott will answer them with patience and care. Scott is eager to work with you and help make the vision of your concrete project a reality.
